Each year, the Ed Block Courage Award honors players who exemplify commitments to the principles of sportsmanship and courage.
The Ed Block Courage Award is named in honor of Ed Block, the longtime head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts, who was a pioneer in his profession and a respected humanitarian.
Recipients are selected by their teammates for exceptional courage, great character and inspiring effort.
Coming off of a debilitating ankle area injury during the 2016 season, Carroll worked through a growling rehab to expeditiously rebound to overcome his challenges of this blow. While rehabbing, he took time to mentor many youths about staying positive and never giving up. He also established the Nolan Carroll Foundation to support educational opportunities to benefit disadvantaged and at-risk youths.
In receiving the Ed Block Courage Award, Carroll joins with other NFL notables such as: Victor Cruz, Cameron Wake, Cam Newton, Joe Haden and Matthew Stafford.
