• Cowboys Optimistic That Defensive Reinforcements Are On Their Way

    Posted by Nolan Carroll

The Cowboys are hoping their defense will look a bit different when it lines up this Sunday against Green Bay. That’s a literal statement, not a figurative one. Obviously, the Cowboys will need to play better than the 281 yards and 19 points they allowed in the second half against Los Angeles. Otherwise, their Week 5 meeting with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers will be a long one. But that’s the initial point. When the Cowboys welcome the Packers to AT&T Stadium on Sunday afternoon, there’s at least some optimism they’ll have some reinforcements on defense – starting with their...

  • Despite Diverse Backgrounds, Dallas Locker Room Joins Together

For all the many diverse backgrounds and viewpoints that occupy the Dallas Cowboys’ locker room, there was common ground in the room following Monday’s win against the Cardinals. For every question about the contest itself, Cowboys players faced plenty more about their pregame demonstration – one meant to showcase team unity and a call for equality – just before the national anthem. In his own way, each Cowboys player expressed satisfaction with how that came to pass. “It was a tough deal to handle, but I think this team, this organization – players, coaches, staff – everyone did the right...

  • Cowboys' Nolan Carroll: Considered day-to-day

    Posted by Nolan Carroll

Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett called cornerbacks Nolan Carroll (concussion) and Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) day to day after each exited with injuries against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Carroll is in the concussion protocol after taking a blow to the head by teammate Jeff Heath midway through the second quarter. Awuzie also exited in the first half with a hamstring injury that has bothered him since training camp. Awuzie said after the game he is hopeful that he can be ready to play Monday. Garrett said wide receiver Terrance Williams, who is battling an ankle injury, made it through the...

  • Injuries Force Cowboys' Young Defensive Backs Into The Fire Against Denver

DENVER – The Dallas secondary was already facing a steep challenge before Sunday’s game kicked off, and it got steeper quite quickly. The Cowboys knew going in that they’d be without Orlando Scandrick while trying to defend Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and the Broncos’ passing attack. Scandrick was ruled out with a broken hand, which he suffered last week against New York. What they didn’t expect going in was the rash of injuries that hit their secondary, as Nolan Carroll was ruled out with a concussion and Chidobe Awuzie was lost to a hamstring injury – all by halftime. The result was a makeshift secondary, with second-year...

  • Scout’s Eye: Cowboys Tackles, Nolan Carroll Face Steep Challenges In Denver

FRISCO, Texas – Sorry if I’m repetitive, but it just looks to me that the battle on the edge is going to be a key component for a second consecutive week. La’el Collins handled himself quite well against Jason Pierre-Paul last weekend, and Tyron Smith was excellent against Olivier Vernon. Now, the challenge only gets tougher, as they’ll both be tasked with defending arguably the NFL’s best edge rusher. On the other side of the ball, I think it’s going to be critical for the Cowboys to get physical with one of the NFL’s best big-bodied receivers. Here are this week’s matchups: Dallas...
