With Veteran’s Day around the corner, I am very mindful of how blessed I am with the freedoms I get to enjoy. That freedom always comes at a price that is earned by the hard work of the men and women of our Armed Forces. It is their sacrifice that is producing my liberty.
That sacrifice is something that I am proud to have seen first hand. My mom, Jennifer Carroll, served in the Navy as a highly decorated Lieutenant Commander Aviation Maintenance Officer in the Navy for 20 years. My dad, Nolan Carroll Sr., is also a veteran of the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant.
Much of the same drive, structure and pursuit of excellence that is a part of the Armed Forces DNA was also a large part of how I was raised. I complained about much of that structure when I was growing up, but now I am incredibly thankful that was how my parents raised me. That upbringing has launched me into the man that I am today.
There are so many other stories that mirror that of our family. There are many dads and moms who give of themselves in our military to preserve the liberty that we Americans have come to love. Many families across this nation go for months without seeing their loved one while they serve domestically or abroad.
To all of you who are serving in the military now or who have served - thank you! It is the character and sacrifice of people like you who make our country truly great. Happy Veteran’s Day!
